According to a recent study published in the issue of issue of Psychological Science in the Public Interest, dating sites have failed to provide a "shred of evidence" to support their claims about algorithms. More importantly, relationship scientists believe that "the principles underlying the current mathematical matching algorithms cannot achieve any notable level of success in fostering long-term romantic compatibility".

So says a study on the effectiveness of online dating that was reviewed in the May 2012 issue of Scientific American.Why? Because many profiles are false or incomplete, and most of us don't know how to evaluate the ones that are accurate. The article concludes by stating: "Sure, profile browsing is imperfect, but can't singles get a pretty good sense of whether they'd be compatible with a potential partner based on that person's profile? The answer is simple: No, they cannot."
